Korean Fever

Korean influence is allover the world right now. Let me discuss you one of the reason of this addiction the "Korean Drama/ K-drama"

“How this Kdrama addiction started?”

Korea is one of the famous countries right now because of their boy/girl group and also for their dramas. Today we will focus on discussing Korean dramas. Korean drama, often known as K-drama, is a type of televised drama produced in South Korea, usually in the form of a miniseries, that has particular qualities that distinguish it from typical Western television series or soap operas. Korean drama began in the form of radio drama in 1927, while Korea was under Japanese rule. Dramas were broadcast on the radio, with 70% of them being in Japanese and 30% in Korean. The entire arrangement, which included voice actors, narrators, and background musicians, followed a format similar to that of current podcasts.

Television broadcasting began in 1956 with the establishment of HLKZ-TV, a test station that was eventually destroyed by fire. The first Korean television film, "The Gate of Heaven," was broadcast on this channel in 1961, however the film was not well received due to a shortage of television sets in the country.

Television sets were widespread in South Korea in the 1970s, and the government decided that it would be a superior medium for influencing the country's people regarding culture. They decided to keep them low-budget because of the limited budget and audience, and the stories primarily centered around the country's historical characters, war sufferings, and current romance to appeal to the youth. In the year 2000, the ‘Hallyu movement,' also known as the ‘Korean wave,' began, resulting in a massive growth in the popularity of K-dramas.

Korean Fever in the Philippines

Boys over Flower was one of the most well-known and remembered Asian dramas in the Philippines. Most teenagers at the time, including me, were eager to get home and watch the episodes when they first aired on television. Since then, a variety of Asian dramas have emerged, and Korean dramas are now among the most popular in Asia, if not the entire world. Since the early 2000s, when Korean dramas were first released in the Philippines, many children, teens, and even adults have liked them.

Filipinos have always been open to other ideas and cultures. As a result, as shown in Korean dramas, Korean culture and trends have infiltrated and become deeply established in Philippine society today. Korean dramas have had a significant impact on the food, fashion, cosmetics, music, and entertainment industries, as well as on people's attitudes and tastes.

But have you ever considered this question “What is it about Korean drama that attracts Filipinos?”

There are a lot of dramas or show allover the world

but why kdrama is most famous of all? I will give you

some of the answers of this question. Kdrama have incomparable acting skills of the whole cast. Plot twists, applause is an understatement, but K-dramas are notorious for their storyline twists. Let's pretend the material is fantastic, but the narrative twist will always either kill us in despair or give us hope. And lastly, a lot of people watch these dramas because of the looks and charisma of the casts.

Korean dramas offer more than a breath of fresh air—they’re a full, deep, cleansing breath of unbridled humanity, the kind where you can find solace in nostalgic lilts, pop culture antics, and the relatability of the otherwise mundane lives of the characters.
